How this PCV mock theory test works

Tap Start PCV mock test above. You get one hundred questions drawn at random from our bus and coach bank, so each run feels different. Flag anything you are unsure about, jump between questions if you need to, then open the review screen before you submit.

When time is up, the mock submits automatically. Your results show which answers were wrong and short explanations to help you remember the rule. Retake as often as you like. Progress saves in this browser if you close the tab mid-test.

How the real DVSA PCV theory test works

At the test centre you complete two parts back to back: multiple choice, then hazard perception. For buses and coaches you answer 100 questions on a touchscreen with up to 115 minutes. You need 85 out of 100 on that section.

Hazard perception uses video clips. The pass mark is 67 out of 100 for bus and coach drivers. This PCV mock theory test covers only the question part. Use our hazard perception practice for the second half.

Book only through gov.uk. Third-party booking sites sometimes add fees. Check steps, ID and what to expect on gov.uk before you go.

PCV theory test topics in this mock

DVSA groups bus and coach theory into topics including passenger safety, signs, motorway rules and documents. This PCV mock theory test pulls from all of them:

  • Alertness
  • Attitude
  • Safety and your vehicle
  • Safety margins
  • Hazard awareness
  • Vulnerable road users
  • Other types of vehicle
  • Vehicle handling
  • Motorway rules
  • Rules of the road
  • Road and traffic signs
  • Documents
  • Incidents, accidents and emergencies
  • Vehicle loading

Per-topic PCV quizzes are coming soon. This mock already mixes questions from every area.

Tips to pass the PCV theory test first time

  1. Run a full timed PCV mock theory test at least once a week in the month before your appointment.
  2. Revise accessibility, wheelchair spaces, drivers hours and licence categories alongside signs. Examiners mix passenger care with documents.
  3. Read every explanation after a mock, including answers you guessed correctly. The same rule often appears with different wording.
  4. Practise hazard perception separately. Passing this mock does not mean you are ready for the video clips.
  5. Break revision into short sessions. One hundred questions is a long sit; build stamina gradually.

What to revise if you fail this PCV mock

Check your results breakdown by topic. If signs or motorway rules dragged your score down, spend two short sessions on those areas, then retake the PCV mock theory test. If vulnerable road users, documents or handling scores were weak, reread operator guidance and the Highway Code for large passenger vehicles.

Do not book the real exam until you are beating 85 comfortably more than once. A single pass after lucky guesses is not enough.

What happens if you fail the real theory test

You must wait at least three working days before booking again and pay the test fee again. There is no lifetime cap on attempts. Use the gap to target weak topics from your mock results, then book through gov.uk when your practice scores are stable.

PCV mock theory test FAQs

Is this PCV mock theory test free?

Yes. Tap start on this page. We do not ask for payment details or an account.

How many questions are in the bus and coach mock theory test?

This PCV mock theory test uses 100 multiple-choice questions, matching the passenger vehicle exam at a test centre. Hazard perception is a separate section on the real day.

What is the pass mark on a PCV mock theory test?

You need 85 correct answers out of 100 on the multiple-choice part. That is the same pass mark DVSA uses for bus and coach candidates in Great Britain.

How long do I get on the PCV mock?

Up to 115 minutes for all 100 questions. The timer matches the official PCV theory test time limit.

Is this the same as the car mock?

No. Buses and coaches use a longer paper with a higher pass mark. This page follows the PCV format, not the 50-question car or motorcycle test.

Are these the same questions as the DVSA PCV test?

No. Theory Mock uses original practice questions aligned to Highway Code topics, including passenger safety, accessibility and PCV documents. They are useful revision, not a copy of the live DVSA bank.

Can I pause the PCV mock theory test?

You can close the browser and return later. Progress is stored on this device. The countdown keeps running while you are away, like leaving the room mid-exam.

What score should I get before I book the real PCV theory test?

Aim for 88 or more on repeated mocks, not a single pass at 85. Book through gov.uk when your results are steady.
