- This is still-image practice. The live test uses video clips at the test centre.
- Tap once per scene where you would react first. You can review feedback before moving on.
- Progress saves in this browser if you close the tab.
- Aim for 29 or more out of 50 here, then keep practising until scanning feels automatic.
This run uses 10 still scenes scored out of 50 (up to 5 points each). On the official car hazard perception test you need 44 out of 75 across 14 video clips.

What the hazard perception test is
The hazard perception test is the second part of the UK driving theory exam. After the multiple-choice questions you watch short clips from a driver’s point of view. You click the mouse or tap the screen when you see a developing hazard: something that would make you slow down, change position or take another action.
Theory Mock does not host DVSA video. Instead, this hazard perception test page uses illustrated still scenes so you can train your eyes to scan junctions, parked cars, crossings and motorways without implying we supply official footage.
How hazard perception scoring works
Each scorable hazard can earn up to 5 points. The sooner you respond as the risk develops, the higher your score. Clicking repeatedly, in a rhythm, or before anything changes usually scores zero. On the car test there are 14 clips and one clip contains two hazards, giving a maximum of 75 points. You need 44 to pass that section for a car licence.
| Licence | Pass mark | Maximum score |
|---|---|---|
| Car | 44 | 75 |
| Motorcycle | 44 | 75 |
| Lorry / bus (module 1) | 67 | 100 |
| ADI Part 1 | 57 | 75 |
Our image drill scales to 50 points so you can track improvement. Treat 29 out of 50 as a rough equivalent to the car pass rate, then keep practising until you are consistent.
How this hazard perception practice works
Tap Start hazard perception practice above. For each scene, tap once where the main developing hazard is. You see your score for that image, a short explanation, and a tip you can apply on real roads. Move through all ten scenarios to open a full results summary.
When you finish, retake as often as you like. Combine this page with topic revision on the mock theory test hub and with show me tell me revision before your practical test when that guide is live.
Tips to pass the hazard perception test
- Scan far ahead and use mirrors early. Most clips reward anticipation, not last-second clicks.
- Click once when the hazard starts to develop. Avoid machine-gun clicking.
- Watch for parked cars, side roads, crossings, cyclists and sudden queues.
- Practise weekly in the month before your test, not only the night before.
- Book through gov.uk when mocks and hazard scores are steady. Check ID rules and fees on gov.uk before you go.
What happens on test day
You sit the multiple-choice questions first, then hazard perception on the same visit. You need to pass both parts. If you fail one section you retake the whole theory test and pay again. Use the waiting time to repeat weak topics from your car mock theory test results and to rerun this hazard perception practice.
